Recovery efforts from the devastation of Hurricane Matthew

Sponsors-With the assistance of Shaataauh Marbres, S.A., ALPAM was able to provide training to 12 participants from the different affected communities. The goal is to have the trained participants return to their respectives communities to assist with the rebuilding efforts.

Hurricane Matthew that ravaged the south of Haiti on October 3, 2016 revealed the inadequacies of the homes built in the countryside of Haiti. Almost all of the homes were destroyed by the hurricane mainly because they were poorly built. Our purpose with ALPAM is to work with local officials together with the affected communities to rebuild the destroyed homes with aesthetic appeals while keeping costs down.

Sponsors-With the assistance of Shaataauh Marbres, S.A., ALPAM was able to provide training to 12 participants from the different affected communities. The goal is to have the trained participants return to their respectives communities to assist with the rebuilding efforts.

Green Technology -The program trained the participants how to use local supply to build affordable homes by combining gabion baskets, regular soil with a mixture of lime and cements to reduce the building costs by more than fifty (50%) percent than the usual concrete and steel building. The homes as built are eco friendly and can withstand some of nature's toughest conditions.

How to Help-ALPAM, with your assistance, aims to help build a total of 150 homes, with an average cost of less than US$ 5000.00. We are currently conducting a drive to raise enough funds to help provide the affected communities with gabion baskets. The communities will undertake to provide the stones and all useable materials to fill the baskets. They will also undertake to assist with the rebuilding of their homes by providing all other materials that they can. We encourage donors to donate woods, mainly 2"x4"x16' in order to discourage the cutting of trees that have led to deforestation in Haiti.

Self-sustained: While ALPAM believes in helping those in needs, it seeks to render the affected communities self-sufficient.
